Biography
Norah Alrajhi is a visual artist who grew up in Saudi Arabia; based on San Antonio. She is currently completing her Bachelor of art degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio. During her time at the program since her degree grants her flexibility to focus on multiple fields, Norah decided to pour her attention to painting and drawing studio classes. She mainly uses oil paint and watercolor to create her work as well as incorporating mixed media if it is relevant to the subject matter of the artwork. A lot of her work is inspired by her Arabian culture. The social context of where she grew up plays a big role in choosing her subject matter. She is interested in challenging the social norms of consumption habits. Her exposure to different cultures through her school time in the United States helped her expand her horizon on artistic practices. Now she is working as an independent artist while preparing for her graduation from university.
Artist Statement
I create aesthetically pleasing artwork to attack the viewer however my work is far more than just beautiful work. My vision is to challenge social norms from various angles but mainly focusing on consumption habits and globalization. I expect from my audience to enjoy my work from an aesthetic point of view while also leaving them wondering about the deeper meaning of the subject matter. I draw inspiration from mass commercials and big conglomerates as well as incorporating a sense of depth through the dreamy surreal landscapes. I am mostly influenced by René Magritte, Wayne Thiebaud, and Will Cotton
